For many, October 20th is World Statistics Day, a day marked every five years and organized under the guidance of the United Nations Statistical Commission. But for a small group of people throughout the US it has another significance – the day Cornerstone Information Systems, Inc. was founded on October 20th, 1992. To celebrate Cornerstone’s 30th anniversary, we recently gathered all our employees to Bloomington, IN – our HQ – for team building, collaboration, and interdepartmental brainstorming. The overall theme for our event was “crush the problem.” I’m sure you’ll agree that our industry has many unique challenges. But, for decades, Cornerstone has been creating travel solutions to eliminate those challenges. Yet, as the industry evolves, new challenges are presented, and the need for better fulfillment, workflow, capture, consolidation, reconciliation, and so on continues to grow.
We discussed all these topics and more such as third-party integrations, commissions, non-travel data capture and metrics, user experience, customer success, and self-service features for our customers. Why? Albert Einstein is quoted as having said: “If I had an hour to solve a problem, I’d spend 55 minutes thinking about the problem and 5 minutes thinking about solutions.” Of course, software development takes more than 5 minutes! But the point is clear; preparation has great value in problem-solving. Coming together as a company – the entire company – to discuss the problems in our industry and the issues our clients face, started our 55-minute timer. We were able to collaborate on a wide range of topics and how we can address them.
We’re passionate about travel, technology, and where these intersect, particularly in the areas of operations and travel program management. All of us at Cornerstone are committed to putting the customer first by designing, developing, and delivering innovative solutions to the complex issues in our industry – in short, we’re committed to “crush the problem.”
We are currently working on some very exciting projects for release during the 2023 calendar year. We’ll be sure to keep you in the loop along the way. Prior to starting Cornerstone Information Systems, Mat Orrego spent several years in the financial service industry working as a financial planner. He joined Gant Travel as vice president of MIS in 1987 where he developed various client-reporting tools. During his tenure with Gant, Mat was involved in all aspects of agency management from operations to vendor negotiations and account sales and management.
