Here at Cornerstone Information Systems, we have been working on a method to aggregate, anonymize, and distribute information about the health of the Travel Industry – gathered from all of the data that flows through our network every month. We feel that it is paramount that companies with data share our knowledge and the foresight it brings.
Here are the numbers regarding the February 2024 travel index:

There was also a 31% increase in processed trips from January 2024 to February 2024.

February 2024 Analysis
- While last month lagged far behind January 2023 at 40% fewer trips booked coming out of the holidays, YOY for February is far more on par. With the increase we saw last month, Feb 2024 is only -3% volume compared to Feb 2023.
- Just like with trips processed, hotel stays that came through Cornerstone’s systems were similarly up by 30.92% month-to-month and cars rented went up by 26.62%.
- Interestingly, both the average nights per hotel stay as well as the average days per car rental went down significantly (to 2.81 nights per hotel and 4.36 days per car rental). So while the TOTAL trips processed went up, it looks like February trips trended toward shorter stays than January.

Much like how the S&P 500 Index tells the health of the US Stock Market, the Cornerstone Index is meant to reflect the health of the travel industry according to the data that we have available to us.
Please note that we are performing adjustments and cleansing to ensure an accurate index. This means that during our development of the travel index, some values may fluctuate month to month in their calculations. However, we do not believe this offsets major travel trends.
